Originated in loose pile of recyclable materials
Foul play not suspected
A fire at the County Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Grafton happened Friday night.
Fire crews responded after fire alarms at the facility triggered a call by the monitoring system.
Officials have confirmed that the site of the fire was identified as a loose pile of recyclable materials within the plant. A review to identify potential causes is now underway; foul play is not suspected.
The facility was closed at the time the fire was reported—no injuries were sustained. County staff have been given the ‘All Clear’ to enter the building and initial review indicates minimal damage.
As a result, there are no changes planned for waste and recycling collection schedules for residents.
The Alnwick/Haldimand Fire Department, Northumberland Paramedics and other emergency services personnel attended according to a County release.
