Bewdley — Harwood — Gores Landing

Concurrent with Provincial Stay-at-Home order

At the Township of Hamilton Regular Council held virtually on April 20, 2021, Council passed a resolution to prohibit fishing in all Municipal Waterfront Parks during the length of the current Provincial Stay-at-Home Order. This includes shoreline fishing and fishing from any piers, docks, or other structure within the following municipal parks:

􀁸 Bewdley Waterfront (Optimist Park)

􀁸 Harwood Waterfront Park

􀁸 Gores Landing Waterfront Park

The decision was made to help reduce crowding on the Rice Lake shorelines and docks in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.

In addition, Council also approved at the April 20th meeting a Schedule of Fines for the Parks Bylaw and the implementation of a 2021 Waterfront Strategy, which addresses concerns with parking, use of parks, and enforcement. K9 Security has been contracted by the Township to assist with the education and enforcement of the Parks By-law and Parking By-law throughout the Township during the 2021 Summer Season.

Council will review the decision to prohibit fishing in its Waterfront Parks at its next Regular Meeting on May 18, 2021 at 1:00pm. Council also directed staff to continue to monitor the fishing, parking, and parks usage situations in its Parks and to report back at the May meeting.

Please note that under the current Provincial Stay at Home Order, outdoor recreational amenities including basketball courts, tennis courts, multi-use courts, etc. remain closed to the public.

Walking trails, boat launches, and playground equipment remain open at this time.
