Each year they take it to the next level

The Rotary Club of Cobourg Courtyard at Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) has been twinkling with Christmas colours during the evening thanks to the efforts of local elves. Since the hospital first opened its doors in 2003, the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation has been keeping the Courtyard bright and cheery with seasonal decorations, each year adding to the display.

For the past three years, ‘Head Elf,’ Dave Cromlish and ‘Chief Building Elf,’ Jim Maguire along with fellow elves have installed a great display for staff and patients to enjoy during the dark days of the winter. Each year, the display grows a little more extravagant and the 2020 additions include an airplane piloted by a gingerbread person and other gingerbread people mingling in the Courtyard – all of who are appropriately masked, of course.

“We are so grateful to the volunteers that come each year to brighten up the Rotary Club of Cobourg Courtyard at NHH for the Holiday season,” says Natasha Jacobs, Special Events Officer at NHH Foundation. “There is so much work that goes into this, from building and refreshing the set, to setting it all up and taking it all down at the end of the season. This year, with so many restrictions and changes, we are happy this could stay the same. This display brings joy to so many of the staff, patients and those who are at NHH during this time. A huge thank you to everyone involved!”
