More than $5,000 worth of ground beef was donated to the Northumberland Food 4 All Warehouse on Oct. 25 through a collaboration involving the Northumberland Cattlemen’s Association, Hilts Butcher shop and abattoir, Hoards Station Community Sales Barn, Taylor Trucking and the Rotary Club of Cobourg and District.
There will be a second donation in January, says Association spokesperson Doug Gray of Cramahe Township.
The decision was to make these donations during the “lean times” at the food warehouse which in turn delivers to food banks throughout the county, Gray said.
The warehouse is located in Cobourg and is closed at this time due to the pandemic.
This donation represents beef from one cow yielding about 500 pounds of meat, Matt Hilts said during the presentation.
Northumberland Food 4 All Warehouse manager Rob O’Neil said fresh food, like fruits, vegetables and meat, is very welcome.
“We always need these,” he said.
Gray joined fellow Cattlemen Association member Kirby Hakkesteegt, together with Matt Hilt of Hilts Butcher Shop and O’Neil in loading the Northumberland Food 4 All Warehouse van at the abattoir located on the 6th Line of Asphodel near Hastings.
