Help Finish A Home fundraiser

On October 5th 2020, Habitat for Humanity Northumberland is launching a new fundraising campaign. Finish A Home, is exactly that – a fundraiser that allows donors to help pay for the finishes in a Habitat home. It will allow donors to pick from a list of finishes, including items like toilets, sinks, light fixtures and flooring and contribute the equivalent cost of those items as a cash donation. A shopping list of items will be available both online on the website and in-person at the ReStore location at 764 Division St. in Cobourg.

The funds for this campaign will be allocated towards the current build at 22 & 24 University Avenue in Cobourg. There are four units at this location with 2 units still under construction. These units are the ones that need to be finished. Habitat Northumberland is aiming to have the new homeowners in these homes by the end of the year. The COVID-19 pandemic lockdown meant that the timelines for the project have shifted. The largely volunteer workforce that Habitat has relied on to execute large scale builds like this, shrank to a minimum, and scheduled completion of projects extended beyond their original projections.

“With the challenges faced by our community over the last six months, we really wanted to launch a fundraiser that could provide people with an affordable way to help, and this build specific fundraiser really ticked all the boxes,” says Meaghan Macdonald, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity Northumberland. “It is a campaign we can replicate for future builds and we thought it would be fitting to launch the first one on World Habitat Day in 2020. This is a United Nations recognized day to promote the vision that everyone deserves a decent place to live.”

Finish A Home will run from Monday October 5th until Saturday October 17th. During this two-week period, Habitat hopes to raise $10,000 for the finishes in the University Ave. units. With a wide variety of price points for donations, the hope is that all the finishes will be purchased. From drywall mud to doors and lights, even small donations make a big difference. Friends and family of the homeowners, as well as the community, can help to contribute towards each project. At the conclusion of this campaign, the contributors will be announced on our website and social media platform and shared over a Facebook Live Event. Stay tuned for that date. Through this campaign, donors will help Habitat Northumberland and two local families build strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership.
